On spring ...

I know it's not even February yet, but I have to share a recent finding. Maybe it will bring a shred of hope for the season next to come (except for those of you in Australia, who are right now in the throes of your hot season).

"Is the spring coming?" he said. "What is it like?"

"It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine, and things pushing up and working under the earth,"
said Mary.

That is an excerpt from The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. We are reading this book in Book Club this month, and I am loving it. I am loving the memories it evokes, and I'm already planning to read it to Graham. There are two great boy characters in it, just in case you're thinking it sounds like a girls book. Ladies, if you haven't read it recently, I encourage you to pick up a copy.

We are ready for spring here in Washington! Of course, I do like the winter weather, and I like my winter wardrobe better than my summer wardrobe - why is it so hard to appreciate summer clothes in the same way as winter clothes? Maybe it's just harder to get excited about lightweight, flimsy, single layer clothes! I've had this conversation with women and was surprised that others felt the same way. Guys, I'd be interested in knowing if men feel the same way ...

i need to go wash diapers. Before I go, here are a few pics to keep you coming back for more ...

These are from SunRiver, OR where we spent New Years and a few days.

What we've been up to ...

Greetings! It has been too long since we've written. We spent Christmas in Wisconsin, then when we got back, we went to Sunriver, OR, with another couple and their kids to stay at Pat's company's condo for New Year's Eve and the weekend. It was nice to get away, but it made it even harder to get back into the work routine.

Graham is doing so well! The video will show you visually ... his little bottom teeth are peeking through, he's sitting on his own, he's pushing up like he's going to crawl, he's eating solids (which means his poop is changing), and he's making new noises all the time ... he's really coming into his own. We are really enjoying hanging out with him - we both talked about missing him today when we went back to work after the weekend.

I created a little video and am including it here ... some video from the last couple of days, and some pictures of the past month or so. Most from my phone, so the quality is kind of low. This is my first attempt making a movie - I used Windows Movie Maker. I feel like it's pretty rough, but for the sake of Graham's grandparents, my parents especially (haven't seen G since Thanksgiving) ... I thought I'd include it. We got a Flip Mino HD for Christmas - (it's awesome by the way). If anyone has advice on good free movie software, I'm interested!

Well, I'm heading to bed now. More to come ... trying to get back in the habit of posting.
